We need Solidarity to be a UK wide party. A "Workers" party is doomed to failure by name association alone. An inclusive true Socialist Party can, given time win. Socialism does not preclude success it does however require fairness of tax payment and decent wages to workers.

In my blog this week I look at the arguments for and against leaving the Labour Party. You might find it interesting even if you disagree with my conclusion. https://davemiddletons.blogspot.com/2020/05/please-dont-go.html …pic.twitter.com/ReTXkW3GqT

A question for you. How did the membership , swelled to 500000 from 200000 as you state, presumably attracted by Corbyn and his policies, elect Starmer and Rayner?

My view is there was no credible alternative candidate to Starmer. RLB wasn’t ready - if only John McDonnell had stood. Similarly the left Deputy candidates were very weak - Richard’s a great principled guy but no Deputy Leader now. Succession planning by the left was a joke

My point is , arguably the Party membership was as overwhelmingly Left as it has been for over a generation, and yet that membership failed to stop a Right Wing crushing victory.

I get your point, but members on the left had no serious candidates to vote for. I voted RLB but wasn’t convinced she could lead the party for say 2-3 years - but I understand others couldn’t vote for someone who would struggle. Equally Starmer is struggling to lead the party

The dearth of left wing talent amongst the elected MPs is shocking and something that has been planned for over the last several decades with a neoliberal agenda at the fore, having said that the right isn't really much better , very poor calibre of people representing us.

The right isn't much 'better'? You have one swooning over apples, two that sit upstairs playing with their action men until their Mum's call them down for dinner, two that run/ hide, at least two who can't count for toffee and another who's still looking for the edge of the UK!

I agree. The collective talent pool has run dry. Modern politics is all about compliance, listening to advisers views not your own and no original thought
