I can’t believe this - the Dept of Health in England are only including #COVID19 deaths in the daily statistics where a patient’s family have agreed to it. Is this a deliberate attempt to understate the number of deaths?https://twitter.com/SaveTheNHS4U/status/1242961446520213506 …

Needing family consent to include a death in official statistics is absolute bollocks.

Information Commissioner's Office paper covers this matter. Cause of death recorded on death certificate - public document. Maybe delay due to problems in the comms route? PathLab, Admin & others vital. But NHS mgt vilified for years with doctors & nurses only praised.

Looking at guidance, death by Covid-19 is notifiable by registered medical practitioner. But not on the list for laboratory notification. Not sure if has significance. Was approach to communicating and reporting numbers of people dying considered in plan to address pandemic?

Death analysis for Covid-19 can be later when govt held to account. Use reports deaths to reinforce don't meet & greet outside family group. Consider availability, type of tests, number deployed & % of target group covered. International comparison test approach is important
