Like Germany with a much older age profile than the UK? The difference is they prepared for pandemic properly - they had testing supplies for mass testing, contact tracing systems, PPE, ventilators and much more. This crisis has been exacerbated by govt negligence

These are good questions for
@PHE_uk and their slow response to@the need to ramp up testing. It is clear that Ministers were frustrated as well. With regards to Germany what I would like to know is why testing on its own prevented the spread of#COVID19 as you suggest?1 antwoord 0 retweets 1 vind-ik-leuk -
Its not mass testing in isolation, it was critically contact tracing. South Korea did exactly the same. Many of the uk deaths could have been avoided. As WHO said - test, test, test. We didn’t listen. The 2016 ‘stress test’ of readiness revealed the issues, Ministers didn’t act

So looking through your crystal ball you new such a pandemic was coming where testing and contact tracing was going to be key? I think we can all be as clever after the event.

Bill Gates said yesterday he has been warning governments globally for years that pandemic was inevitable and they had to prepare. Successive governments decided it wasn’t worth preparing for. Like home insurance - unlikely your house will burn down but wise to have it covered

I think that is a lesson noted and learned by all Governments across the world. I wonder if you agree with me that if the Chinese had acted properly then we would not find ourselves on this position?

I totally agree. And they are not acting properly now. The current mortality and case statistics are works of fiction. In a county of that size, with massively underdeveloped health / public health systems in rural parts it can’t be this low
