I find it hard to say the deaths could be avoided, as we haven’t reached ICU capacity. But it’s fair to say we could have avoiding as many people catching it right now. So the real question, is would those deaths happened over the coming years as the virus stays with us.

So looking through your crystal ball you new such a pandemic was coming where testing and contact tracing was going to be key? I think we can all be as clever after the event.

Bill Gates said yesterday he has been warning governments globally for years that pandemic was inevitable and they had to prepare. Successive governments decided it wasn’t worth preparing for. Like home insurance - unlikely your house will burn down but wise to have it covered
