There are 1.8 million in Northern Ireland. 77 have coronavirus and one death. People are still surviving and that gives me hope.

Lots of poverty and COPD and CHD in these ex mining areas. It hasn’t changed since I worked with Heartbeat Wales - so much for a public health initiative which didn’t work.

My roots are all very firmly in that area (Abertillery/Newport) so I am saddened as well as puzzled by these statistics. Certainly it's an area of grim deprivation, but deprivation has not been reported as having an association with the virus, as far as I know

It’s heartbreaking David. I have a community pharmacy contact in the area and there appears little grasp of social distancing and isolation amongst some parts of the community

It could simply be that ABHB have been "quick off the blocks" in seeking out social contacts for cases identified early. Probably too early to read too much into these figures yet.
