He's backing Long-Bailey.

Ed she hasn’t shown she’s up to it yet. She is a good person with good values but hasn’t shown the gravitas / likability needed yet. If she shows it in the hustings I’ll vote for her but if not and Barry stands he will have my vote. Disappointed Angela Rayner didn’t go for leader

My first priority is policy. She is a decent enough performer for me. Gardiner (who isn't even running at the moment) doesn't have the politics. I want to see us carry on with the types of polices we have and which Long_Bailey was central to developing. Not slide backwards.

RLB is the best candidate for leader on retaining policy. Burgon is better than Rayner as deputy to back RLB on policy. More importantly, if RLB is not successful and Starmer wins, Rayner will not be as effective as Burgon at resisting any move to the right by Starmer.

RLB clearly feels otherwise as they (she and Rayner) are backing each other.

They are friends and it's a political astute move if RLB wants the PLP behind her. But I think Burgon is the more likely to support members and a better bet at resisting pressure to move to the centre.

1/2 I just don't like the way he presents his arguments, and think we need to consider 'being slick' as a need. Equally, if we can have 2 great woman as Leader and Dep, that makes a point in itself regarding inclusiveness.

Fair enough but politics and the future direction of the party are my priority. I think Burgon has the best politics of everyone standing.

Which is great, but so did Corbyn. Problem wasn't only some baggage he had but also his delivery. Not fast on his feet, not willing to dig in, not willing to play politics. Burgon isn't fast on feet (almost as slow as Abbot) making him look shifty imo- and I'm a socialist.

Well he doesn't have to do all the live TV. We'll pick the people most suited to that. Leadership is about shaping the party and policies.

Ed I admire your loyalty to Richard but he’s no media player. We live in this presidential world that I hate, but it is what it is. He has been badly caught out in media interviews many times. He has strengths but this isn’t one of them

1) Richard is not bad on telly and better than most. 2) He agrees with the policies the members will support. 3) A deputy does not need to be overly vocal. Indeed Watson was far better when he just said nothing....
