When Labour lost the GE, my first instinct for next Labour leader was either Rebecca Long-Bailey or Barry Gardiner. I'm a fan of both, but I feel the left need to unite behind one candidate to stop a centrist takeover. Who do you think is Labour's strongest leadership candidate?

Ed Poole 🟠 ⬆️ @edwardpoole1975We all love Barry Gardiner. He's a fantastic performer on live TV and has been fiercely loyal to the cause. I sincerely hope he stays in the shadow cabinet. But he's not the leader the left of the party are looking for. https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/10220/barry_gardiner/brent_north/votes … pic.twitter.com/VC833QCR4o1 antwoord 5 retweets 27 vind-ik-leuks -

I'm struggling to be enthused by any of them, Ed. Wanted Laura Pidcock or Angela Rayner, but in the absence of them, can't see who has the wit, quick footedness, integrity and likeability that will be needed.

Ed she hasn’t shown she’s up to it yet. She is a good person with good values but hasn’t shown the gravitas / likability needed yet. If she shows it in the hustings I’ll vote for her but if not and Barry stands he will have my vote. Disappointed Angela Rayner didn’t go for leader

My first priority is policy. She is a decent enough performer for me. Gardiner (who isn't even running at the moment) doesn't have the politics. I want to see us carry on with the types of polices we have and which Long_Bailey was central to developing. Not slide backwards.

So do I - but I want to see a lot more from her in communicating, defending and extending those policies. I don’t think ‘decent enough’ is a great reference for a new job. As I said I want her to prove me wrong over the next month - she has to or it will be Starmer leading us

Decent enough performer. The performance is secondary to the actual policies and political convictions for me. None of the others have that except arguably Lewis.

Ed we have sound policies we need to help better communicate them - I’m not convinced RLB can do this. Please let her prove me wrong, please
