I realise that but the judge and parole board decide within a legal framework, and that framework must change. If he is not allowing the victim’s family closure he deserves to rot in jail

When the death penalty was abolished the public who opposed it, were assured that life sentences would be just that. To my mind more cruel than hanging, as a result Govt has softened its approach especially with regard to using manslaughter convictions but also life sentences.

Problem is that it assumes criminal justice system perfect ie only the guilty (murderer) are convicted but we know that is far from the reality. Cannot reveal details if innocent.

Good point - but while serving a life term surely the court of appeal would have intervened over a miscarriage of justice. Not sure how many modern murder cases have seen an innocent person serving the full life term
