We don't know and that's part of the problem . We should know to see if we are getting good value for money given that most people never use a train ! Only 5% travel by train more than 3 times a week in the UK.

Nobody said he it was . But it should be transparent in order for taxpayers like myself who use a train perhaps once a year to make a judgernent . Next train I will be catching will be from Seville to Cordoba in about a fortnight 's time !

Bidders asked to work to both a capex & subsidy profile so new franchise, with financial profiling over 15 yrs with more efficient stock, "lower opex" more capacity & demand (esp valleys) will tend to lead to lower subsidy per passenger & room for lower fares for some services
