This closed petition to ‘Stop Postal Votes except for the elderly and disabled’ needs to be resurrected. Polls indicated 48% of all postal voters last week voted Tory - something smells fishyhttps://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/258370 …

So they want to exempt the 100's of thousands of folk who work away from home? They want people not to book holidays over the polling period?

Postal votes are wide open to fraud. They still have the previous rules in N Ireland which limits them to 2% of the population. There are proxy votes for those who cannot vote due to unforeseen circumstances. Postal voting means less polling stations which hits turnout badly.

Putting a 2% cap on elderly and disabled population is indefensible. This just disenfranchises the disabled who don't meet whatever criteria is enforced, full time carers, those without access to transport (particularly rural voters), shift workers and many more. Not the answer

2% is not a cap, that is just the approximate percentage that make use of it. It was this way until 2001 when Blair changed rules. Vast majority of voters who are less than 5 mins from polling station do not need postal vote.

I agree. Once every few years is hardly a big effort
