Very disappointed at Richard on TV yesterday - he’s not strong enough to front the party yet. He struggles on TV more generally and needs a few more years to develop I think

He'll be up against Boris Johnson. Boris Johnson would make my pet cat sound coherent by comparison. I take your point but he would enjoy a good chunk of time to find his feet. I like him.

The problem is, none of the people from our wing of the party are ready yet. Who do you think is the best option?

I’ve a lot of time for Angela Rayner. Dan Carden won’t be ready for a few years yet though

I have one or two reservations about Rayner. Nothing very serious, though.

I can't stop worrying abouts how the PLP will treat another lefty leader elected by the rank and file.

Pam they will be attacked just like JC was. The PLP said it was the person they criticised but it’s not, they don’t want democratic socialism just a return to their Blairite roots

Absolutely. Which is why I hope people start thinking seriously about alternative approaches. Corbyn policy proposals were wildly popular with the public but when more than half the party's high profile leaders are hostile to that platform, it becomes a very hard sell.

I’ve had enough of them - I think we had too many policies but the ones for students and WASPI should have made massive headway in terms of votes. Still not sure about free broadband

I quite liked the broadband thing: it was a 21st century version of ending turnpike roads. The problem was more general: 40 years of neoliberalism has destroyed the hope that things can be better, in all sorts of ways.
