Of course every govt has. It’s inevitable with the cycle of mining. The difference is Thatcher did it for political motives to break the NUM and the unions. She could have provided transition support for alternative employment - she didn’t out of spite. She is still hated

As the daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter of miners I absolutely and utterly hate every one of those Tory bastards but none more than Thatcher. We are all reaping what she sowed.

So what happened in the so called red wall areas? I donated to miners welfare fund and signed a huge petition in the market place of my hometown in support of the miners during the strike. There was a certain amount of solidarity in those days. Where has it gone?
