Labour frontbencher responds to allegations he chanted "Hey Jews" to the tune of "Hey Jude". This doesn't appear to categorically deny that he sung the chant though, only that it was not antisemitic behaviour.https://twitter.com/DanCardenMP/status/1193131776178368513 …

This appears to be a defence along the same lines as Labour candidate Gideon Bull's from yesterday. He did not deny using the word Shylock but said he didn't know it was antisemitic. Carden appears to not be denying chanting "Hey Jews" but maintains it is not antisemitic.

NEW: Dan Carden does indeed categorically deny that he sang 'Hey Jews' on the bus last year. Another MP, Mark Tami who says he was sat near to Mr Carden on the bus added: “I was on the bus and didn’t hear any singing of this nature".

MORE: Another person from within Labour has contacted Sky to say he was on the coach with Dan Carden and didn't hear those words being sung.

What I don't understand... If this story is nonsense (and the push back within Labour now makes it seem that way), why did the party issue a non-denial to Buzzfeed? Why did Carden send out a tweet that was not a straight categorical denial? Why didn't they kill it sooner?
