So are bus drivers , but they don’t get paid as much as train drivers . Unions holding companies to ransom .

Or ... it takes over a year and about £100k to train a train driver and so you really don't want them leaving to drive for another company who'll pay them a lot more. Market forces.

Cheers. I reckon [plucks numbers out of nowhere in particular] that train driver salaries are driven 90% by market forces and 10% by union muscle. I also reckon that those proportions are almost exactly reversed when it comes to train drivers' terms and conditions.

Very well paid job and it will eventually be done by robots. The Union muscle has boosted their wages . Comparatively in respect to dynamic responsibility it is not justified , driving a train can be made into a 12 month training schedule to justify .

Aye. That's what I like to call ideologically-driven reactionary bollocks, Kenneth. Off you pop.

Overpaid and under skilled . Exactly why transport costs so much and forces people onto the road . My opinions are impartial . Eventually technology will supersede you are your mates . Meanwhile fill your boots .

Staff costs are about 20% of your fare. Drivers are just a fraction of that 20%. Blag a day out with a driver at your local TOC and see what we actually have to know and do. I've been on the verge of being replaced by a robot/AI for years. I'll be retired before it happens.

Probably will , do you have seen the best days . Good pension . I suspect . Earnings related , index linked . Don’t blame you , but another example of bullying unions . Unions needed in historical circumstances , but not today .

Unions are not bullies Kenneth! They defend the weakest in the workplace and help the rest of their colleagues thrive in decent conditions. Unions fight the power imbalance in the workplace - employers have all the cards stacked in their favour against the individual employeepic.twitter.com/XXYYMiQh5W
