Agree. I was in school in 80s when teachers were on strike & we instinctively rebelled against Thatcherism & just about everything else! Few stayed beyond 16. We couldn’t wait to get away! So many of us developed a thirst for knowledge & education *after* our schooldays though.

Someone said in an earlier tweet that the fact that our journey took this route gives us the understanding and empathy that those who went route 1 will never have - we needed to go this route we are the lucky ones

I still didn’t go down the formal higher education route, but I couldn’t soak up knowledge and books quickly enough - as soon as I’d left those bloody school gates for the last time!

I needed that piece of paper I needed that validation but not everyone does - I know it’s cliche but it’s not what you got that’s important but what you do and how you do it.
