I'm all for taking away their charitable status and possibly opening up their facilities for the use of the wider community but they're businesses. They cannot be shut down because they're successful and exclusive. What next, the best restaurants, and couture dress shops?

I thinks are a different issue in terms of equality of access to education. The reality is some of those things will be sacrificed during future implementation ie seizure of assets. I think integration of all schools into a single system is a positive move

“Equality of access to education” is a dream. Watch private tutoring business explode. You cannot stop wealthy people spending money to benefit their children.

I agree and yet I don't. If every pupil gets a first class education, why would there be a need for any extra tuition?

The reality of the really elite schools is that you are not just buying a top class education you are buying connections that will see you into the right university and a very well paid career, and in the case of Eton an attitude to keep the masses down at heel
