I don’t think she does need bodyguards. It may help her with an any Corbyn narrative she has helped develop, but conference is not a violent or nasty place and comrades would not threaten her wellbeing or allow others to. Ours is a peace loving party

Don’t be daft
. Of course Labour gets things wrong, like any party. Thoughtful political journalists like Tamara Cohen and Faisal Islam don’t need bodyguards. But they don’t enjoy stirring tensions in the way Laura does. Amazes me how she ever got the job0 antwoorden 0 retweets 1 vind-ik-leuk -

Kevin's polite, don't be too harsh. I just hope he finally sees the Kuenssberg thing for what it is - a woman who is legitimately scared because there are mobs that do exist within Labour (and those who support Labour and aren't members)

Kevin, while I disagree with you on LK's reporting (I think it's mostly neutral, and I say this as someone on the moderate left), I think part of the reason she needs bodyguards is because she is a woman. Faisal Islam won't experience misogyny

I also think that, as a general point, that for democracy to flourish then journalists should be allowed to do their jobs without fear of assault. The idea she has 'stirred up' ill feeling implies that journalists should be uncontroversial. Journalism is always controversial.

Of course, there's a broader debate about press standards - rightly spurred by the revelations around phone hacking and Hillsborough - but it's wrong to suggest that individual journalists should be threatened because some people disagree with the editorial line they've taken.

I won’t argue on the need for systemic change. We have a broken media fit for a broken country
