The fixed term parliament act that Clegg/ Cameron introduced in 2011. It would take two thirds of all MPs to agree to call a General Election earlier than 2022. The Lib Dem’s wanted it as part of the coalition deal and it replaced legislation that had worked well since 1716

#BorisJohnson can bring a#ConfidenceVote against his own#Govt to cause a#GE. This was in left in place as previously was even with the Fixed Parliament Act. -
I was unaware of that - I thought they still needed the 75% of MPs
