This is a very odd story. I’ve never come across a school with a zero budget for supply staff - how can they operate when teachers are ill or on courses. Something peculiar going on in Cardiff LEA https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-48910561 …

As a supply teacher I can tell you that the cuts have drastically affected my work. 8 years ago I could turn down work on daily basis. Now I am looking for yet another new career. Schools use TA's and Learning Assistants for cover.

I agree cuts have been devastating and have very grave concerns. But how could any head or governing body set a zero supply budget. Teachers and learning support staff are not robots - they become ill and need CPD. It seemed a very, very odd statement hence my question

I’m a governor at two schools - and cuts are hurting - but you can’t operate without a supply budget. I’ve spent 20 years fighting for better school funding, so not critical of the school or head. It’s just a very odd statement

I’m obviously involved with two relatively fairly funded schools in Wales. Critically all schools must be fairly funded across the UK
