It's more moral because it's funded voluntarily and doesn't usurp monopolies. As to why it's more efficient - probably partially because of the above, but that's a big topic. However spending $5 in order to get $1 to the poor is definitely not a praiseworthy system.

But what about the massively paid CEOs and senior managers of mega charities? Scatter gun procurement of materials & services by smaller charities means isn’t efficient. In the UK must small charities do not pay decent pensions to employees so when they retire they need charity
