Disagree... It's both. A mixed economy of state responsibility and individual Initiative. One hour of volunteers time leads to 8 hours of productivity....

You are entitled to your view. I think the role of charity is to deliver ‘nice things to have’ not essential services. This is where we are at the moment in the UK today with foodbanks feeding people with no food because of Universal Credit

Essentials is very subjective. For example hospice care has never been government funded but most would say is essential... Child sponsorship nice thing to have? Salvation Army second biggest supplier of social care after the government
