I don't see it as either or. What I do believe is we need to embrace tax as a good thing, whilst also seeing progressive charities as a valuable source of flexible innovation. I wish the 2 sectors would work better together; learn from each other rather than endlessly competing.

In a functional country charities should only be seen as an extra, rather than a necessity. Charities in support of heritage, or community projects, or foreign aid, etc. Not a substitute for welfare.

Totally agree - they have a role but isn’t - for example - feeding starving people at food banks because of Universal Credit
