This is sinister and undemocratic. Pledges of alliegance to the leader belong to feudalism and totalitarian regimes ruled through leader cults. They have no place in democratic parties.

If you stand for a political party they fund the campaign and local volunteers canvass for you as the party candidate. It’s a deal. If you don’t like it you stand as independent, fund your own campaign & recruit volunteers to canvas for you personally not the party. It’s a choice

But it was fine for Corbyn to vote hundreds of times against his party. Actually that's not such a bad thing. Under FPTP parties have to be broad coalitions.

I think are confusing not following the party Whip with leaving the party. Dissent is not banned in the Labour party and never has been - but these are careerist politicians looking for new career opportunities. Nothing about principles

The gang of seven have come out and said they didn’t want a Labour govt led by democrats elected Corbyn - at that stage they had no business calling themselves Labour members. If they had principles they would call by-elections now to see if people voted for them or Labour
