In the UK, people make twice as many journeys on buses than on trains. But as I experienced today, bus services across the country have become far too unreliable.pic.twitter.com/bugNESVYEn

Train journeys tend to be a lot longer though. So that's a pretty stupid comparison when you think about it. Not saying you're wrong, but try a better line.

Do you have stats to support that - ie average train journey duration vs average bus journey duration. Not criticising your tweet just asking

Wow... I really didn't expect to be questioned on that. I thought it was obvious. But here are the figures for trains. If I understand the data, average train journey is 39.4 kn (~24 miles). I'll leave you to google similar on buses! http://orr.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/39983/passenger-rail-usage-2018-19-q2.pdf …

I always question stats because quite often they are counter intuitive - I had a great statistics lecturer in university many years ago who taught me to question the basis of all stats - especially the made up ones and the obvious ones. Best advice I ever had

And I will admit that the figure of 24 miles is lower than I expected. Maybe it includes tube journeys. But I doubt very much that average bus journey length comes anywhere near that.

We just cross posted. I suspect London / big city commuter journeys bring down train journey duration ie high volume and low distance
