Wow... I really didn't expect to be questioned on that. I thought it was obvious. But here are the figures for trains. If I understand the data, average train journey is 39.4 kn (~24 miles). I always question stats because quite often they are counter intuitive - I had a great statistics lecturer in university many years ago who taught me to question the basis of all stats - especially the made up ones and the obvious ones. Best advice I ever had
