Remainers care about the UK more than Leavers. Leavers are predominantly either an elite bunch wishing to get wealthy out of the chaos of Brexit or angry people who voted for destructive Leave either as a protest vote or out of racial hatehttps://twitter.com/SamGyimah/status/1082770849382445057 …

David I think you are wrong. Both Remainers and Leavers care dearly about the country - but they have very different perspectives on what is best for it. There is a very small elite who regard it as a game just to give them personal gain. We must build bridges and find compromise

I’ve spoken to so many Leavers (at the time of the vote), many of them friends and family and even the wealthiest of them (some millionaires) and the more modest (eg on benefits) all said without exception it was because of immigrants (bizarrely non-EU immigrants and refugees!).

There was no consideration at all of the overall impact of leaving the EU on our country. Some time after the vote a few started to talk about sovereignty instead of immigration and now all of them have gone quiet. Most Leavers were misled I’m convinced of it.

I think it’s patronising to say misled i.e. that they aren’t capable of critical thought

I’m not being patronising just honest -some people are capable of deep critical thinking & others less so -a spectrum. I dearly wish I could take you back in time to a ‘conversation’ I had with an elderly relative of mine a couple of years ago to exemplify what I mean, horrific!

Equally I have dealt this some very strident pro-EU people who fail to recognise how badly it needs reforming. According to them it’s just wonderful. No real grasp of its weaknesses / strengths - or institutions. But I’m not trying to patronise
