It was labour who committed to a referendum on creating the welsh assembly, and that referendum was won with a v narrow majority if you recall. Devolution is a process. Wales & Scotland are 2 different countries economically

Wales and Scotland are two different countries economically because here we make excuses for why we’re still better off being run by Westminster. Stop making excuses for Labour’s failings and start fighting to make Wales a better place to live.

The over 75’s in wales is higher than any other UK country, and still we are funded by the Barnett formula, the money has to go to different places in both countries. You clearly don’t understand what this country has gone through in thatchers yrs & expect a magic solution

How can you blame the Barnett formula while simultaneously backing our national government whose policy it is to survive on these Tory handouts? I don’t expect magic, but I expect better for the Welsh people.

Is that what the choice is between in your mind, Kevin? Labour, the Tories or ‘magic’? There is no magic solution. But we do need to recognise that Westminster isn’t working for Wales, and to stop making excuses for our own plight. Let’s find a real solution.

Im not making excuses. You have to be realistic about historical perspectives around post-industrial decline and demographics. That’s what Barnett did - albeit overfunding Scotland at Wales expense with population change in recent times

I almost don’t care to analyse or even talk about Barnett, Kevin. We both recognise Westminster isn’t working for Wales, so why are we subjecting ourselves to their rule? Let’s move on.

A lot like myself in Welsh Labour are working for a fairer Britain via a progressive UK Labour government, and within that a fairer /more prosperous Wales. I am open minded enough to look at other options if we can’t get that progressive UK govt that best suits Wales. But not yet

Then I wish you well, but I simply can’t leave my country at the mercy of next door’s electorate in the vain hope that one day they’ll back the same government as us. If you want to end Tory rule for good, the only realistic answer is independence.

Perhaps it’s my age and life experience that makes me more pro-Union than you. And certainly my trade union background - which is about being part of a UK family - and my employment for the last ten years at the Open University have made me aware of positive/fair UK wide working
