Because we can’t afford decent conventional defence systems because of that white elephant

How? We operate a good number of fixed and rotary wing aircraft, an aircraft carrier, good size escort and submarine fleet. What do you suggest is lacking?

Critically manpower in the army, surface fleet size (inc. small craft for our waters), proper military martime surv. aircaft and generally an overreliance in all services on small number of high cost / high complexity assets eg F35. It’s about numbers we can’t afford with Trident

You can’t ‘buy’ manpower - scrapping Trident won’t help that. Small fleet size, not sure I see your point - we’ve got both Rivers (B1 & B2). Poseidon’s on order, and has been budgeted alongside Trident, Sentinel and A400M can also perform MPA role.

And you can buy manpower - we always have as has every other country. First stop Crapita recruiting for you - they are useless - then a long term programme of in house recruitment and training. This stupid outsourcing is destroying our forces - SAR, training, firefighting, tanker

If people aren’t joining, you can’t just buy people to sign up. That’s the crux of the current recruiting issue. The only surefire way to increase numbers is conscription. I completely agree with you in regards to Captia, housing and outsourcing.

You improve the package to recruit people - salaries, training to help in post service life and addressing one of the biggest scandals in the UK of post-service care. This Tory govt says all the right words, but does next to nothing for our veterans - Labour will address that

I completely agree that we need to sort out recruitment and veterans. I understand that Labour is committed to sorting this out, but the current party (especially Shadow Cabinet ministers) history of anti-defence and anti-military comments is worrying, to say the least

A lot of the anti-defence stuff are quotes out of context by Tory media mischief makers (but there have been some mistakes). Generally the left values our conventional armed forces, and their vital role within the 3 Ds in making a safer world - alongside development and diplomacy
