Totally understand Gerard. The massive issue for me is the cost... The spectacle was there in 15, 16.... So to increase costs markedly with these bespoke models great though they are is unsustainable. 10 seats in a top Fia championship???? Needs stopping now.

Cost was always going to be an issue with the modern WRC cars - the spectacle is great but when the cost is €300K to €400K more than the outgoing WRC car then it will become difficult to sustain particularly when cars are exclusive to WRC only.

A recent example is the sad demise of
@FIAWorldRX which previously thrived as a privateer series, a few years as a high-cost manufacturer series and now it cannot even be sustained by the very people (privateers) who started the series many decades ago.#nonexclusive#cyclical4 antwoorden 1 retweet 12 vind-ik-leuks -

There’s no doubt in my mind that the clock is ticking on the current WRC cars as the cost of development and run costs are simply unsustainable. WRC2 cars with a few tweaks will be the new format in coming years before Electric arrives. 6 manufacturer teams already building R5’s

Whilst true, it's disappointing. '17/'18 were two of best wrc years due to the tight competition but not just that, more so the awesome group B esque spectacle that R5 cars don't get even remotely close to. Lets find way to protect spectacle rather than jumping to something dull

Agree with the sentiment, but just can't see where the money will come from in the current financial market. Would love it to continue.

So true. They used to fight to get their name on a car in the old days, and from firms not directly linked to Motorsport.

It seems rallying needs to go through its super expensive ‘moment of madness’ every 30 years or so. Group B was the last one in the 80s. It also shows the massive influence of individual manufacturers on the FIA in rallying, unlike F1 where a larger number of teams moderate regs
