If you spend a few minutes learning some actual history, you will find out that concentration camps are different from death camps and have a history that both predates and extends far past the Nazis. https://twitter.com/Liz_Cheney/status/1140988893627478018 …

Look, I understand the use of concentration camp goes well beyond the holocaust. But I think it takes some serious mental gymnastics to see her reference "never again" in the same context and then pretend this wasn't the comparison.

Seems to me a warning of the Niemoller kind, but the author who wrote a history of global concentration camps is pretty damn concerned, rightly

This is what I don't get. A lot of the same people trying to make the case that it wasn't a holocaust comparison are also implying that the comparison is apt. So if it's apt, then why make the case that AOC wasn't making the comparison?

We associate the Holocaust with death camps like Auschwitz, but those didn't come out of nowhere. Concentration camps like Dachau had been around since 1933, setting the principle that Auschwitz etc then built upon. So: to prevent another Auschwitz, protest another Dachau.

Why are you running cover for AOC, Kevin? How many of those imprisoned at Dachau violated the Reich's borders? And how many, you know, were German citizens arbitrarily decided by the Nazi regime to be "enemies of the state"?

You're missing the part that compares the US facilities to Auschwitz or Dachau. I say that as a person who sides with Democrats over Republicans on nearly every issue on immigration. The liberal stance shouldn't be rooted in comparing US facilities to Nazi concentration camps.

It just doesn't seem that "outrage-y" to think warnings mentioning concentration camps & "never again" along with references to an "authoritarian" & fascist presidency" were about the holocaust as opposed to nuanced references to Dachau & Niemoller. Occam's razor doesn't apply?

Do you believe that holding facilities for refugees are comparable to 1935 camps? Are ICE officers getting training / orders that are at all like Nazi guards? Would you rather spend a week in an ICE facility or 1935 Dachau? Do you foresee ICE death-camps?
