Oh, and add that to Francis Blair, the Maryland slaveowner who helped found the GOP and was a delegate to the 1860 convention too.https://twitter.com/arothmanhistory/status/1136827810134335493 …
So that’s *ten* Republicans who were slaveowners in 1860 — and likely more from other border states. No, this doesn’t change the fact that Democrats were overwhelmingly the party of slavery in 1860. But it does show D’Souza’s claim of *zero* GOP slaveowners in 1860 is nonsense.
It’s a minor point, but D’Souza’s refusal to admit he was proven wrong and “take it back” — and even worse — his repetition of the lie long after it was roundly disproved shows how little he cares for the truth, if that wasn’t abundantly clear already.
Did he say find one Republican who owned a slave? What he meant was one Republican with a wooden leg who was also fluent in Mandarin and owned a slave. Can't find one, can you?
There was some amazing goalpost moving and now he’s just pretending none of the evidence exists.
Not to be a bummer on this whole fun thread, but what the origins of the Dems and Repubs is the most infantile argument about the present possible. I know you didnt start it.
Absolutely. But I thought I’d show that even on his own narrow terms he’s clueless
What was the event where he made that statement?
Some big Blexit rally with Candace Owens.
Thanks! Keep up the great work. I'm a big fan.
Wouldn’t @DineshDSouza have to have character to follow thru?
Good point.
Beyond any of this, it's ridiculous to judge me based on the actions and attitudes held by my great-great-grandfather. Why is it so important to ppl like D'Souza to equate the GOP of 1860 with the GOP of 2019? The points of commonality are almost zero.
Right, it's a ludicrous argument.
Ludicrous unless the people listening to him have no grasp of even recent history, the same people who think the pledge and the anthem were recited by the Founders. Then it makes absolute, terrifying sense. I'm not sure what's worse, that D'Souza knows he's lying, or doesn't.
Why continue to engage with low-hanging fruitcake like D'Souza? Waste of your time, isn't it?
Doesn’t take much time at all, and given his influence it seems worth the little time it takes
Can't argue with that. And it's your time. The info is good learning--or fascinating supplemental stuff--for people who don't give a shit about D'Souza, though. Would be a shame not to feed this to a bigger audience. In any case, keep up the good work.
