Yes, that's the problem. Back in the 1990s, I argued that you could only trust politicians when they were prepared to take significant action in their term of political office, and stopped passing the buck onto future generations of politicians. I still think that is the case.
Even that "remaining C budget" is a bad joke...
What makes me angry about this is that back in the 1990s politicians made grandstanding speeches about taking action, and the public voted for politicians promising to take significant action to address the causes of climate change.
Not a science/analytical fail, but political. Ran into coordinated disinfo campaign that opposed action in English speaking world. Failure was not taking that seriously.
I don’t think we get out of it that easy. As a body expected to be vociferously independent we’ve done little more than tickle our funders when we should be holding them to account. We’ve substituted rigour for eloquence & and pursued ruse after ruse to avoid difficult questions.
Right ,, because they failed to create a civilian #Nuclear Power era when they had a chance.
This is essentially magical thinking - wishes masquerading as a plan and used to avoid hard political action. It's like not studying at school on the basis that AI will make knowledge unnecessary when it's time to get a job. Maybe it will happen, but counting on it is nuts.
.We are doomed. No, seriously, we are doomed. Wake up folks while there are still some better and worse levels of doom available.
We are local, social creatures. Not very good at global, physical considerations.
