Agreed! They quote the IEA to support their case, conveniently overlooking that even the IEA have said NO new oil and gas. As for the argument that OUR oil is better than foreign oil, come on! every country says that.

This demonstrates the utter nonsense that is ‘net-zero by not-in-my-term-of-office’. Rising oil production, airport expansion &more gas pipelines all fit with net-zero, but not with 1.5-2°C carbon budgets. Sadly politicians love net-zero & academics are unprepared to call it out.

It does appear that excess & celebrity are deeply interwoven at the expense of valuing much that is around us - from music & sport, to acting & presenting, from scientists/academics to artists, & from writers to journalists. Commercialisation of beauty belittles so much of life.

Many experiences that are local and human-sized are actually more intimate and perhaps even more rewarding: it's just the industrial scale that is missing. Goes for music, art, nature, travel, food, etc.

Or perhaps it's an opportunity for seeing far more local-ish bands. So no total reduction ... just a change from celebrity-bands to other (often equally good) musicians who haven't got the PR machine behind them? Could also help drive a shift away from celebrity excesses?
