This isn't a problem unless you think the people who don't understand RCV are more likely to vote for certain candidates, which is silly.

those bad things are only RCV's fault if you think it wouldn't be that way under first past the post, which seems unlikely to me.

All voters rank candidates, Candidate with least top rank votes is eliminated & those ballots are reassigned to next top ranked uneliminated candidate. Rinse & Repeat until one candidate has above 50% of ballots as top choice among uneliminated candidates & select them as winner.

Well that's an optional detail so it's not entirely crucial to explaining the concept of RCV. what problem does confusion on this detail even create?

Sure I mean I think there should be a "none of the above" option so if the people don't like any of the choices then they can reject them, but failing that, Personally I think you should have to rank all the candidates, in which case calling it an affiliation is quite tenuous.

Sorry, I don't see that as a legitimate reason not to do it that way. if all the good candidates are eliminated then I don't see forcing voters to pick the lesser of two evils is as a problem.

I should also say at this point that instant runoff voting isn't even the best voting method. Condorcet voting is even better.
