Kinda think they stole this idea with excess damage being dealt to the tower from Legends of Runeterra.
Where do you think runeterra got it from? Trample mechanic has been in mtg for like 20 years

Yeah, but it works differently in the new Artifact. As far as I understood, it doesn't hit the unit blocking it. ONLY the tower with the excess damage. "Each unit attacking a feeble unit will deal excess damage to the tower >instead<."
