Space travel is one of the biggest money makers in the world!! Space x turned over revenue of 2 billion last year. Why do you think Musk loves the space army idea...the military pays him to take things into space he has made billions in NASA contracts so far. Saving humanity..no.

He deserves to get the profits from his space projects now, especially when he himself had to fuel it up again out of his own pocket for years , not a organisation not a country but one person. He’s the #1 on my list for having the money of this world.

Actually the google buy in and the founders fund investments poured more in to make it what it is today. Elon himself placed 100 million towards it but private equity and funding investments raised around 500 million.
