    Vicki, don’t give the MIT faculty more credit than they deserve - this is led by three PhD students! The CS faculty aren’t incentivized to make this content at all :).

    Yea, the three steps of quantitative self-deception: 1. Recognize unmeasurable thing that matters 2. Make up an arguably related quantitative measurement 3. Label the measurement as though it measures thing in step 3 (4. Optional, optimize for the metric, aka dysfunction)

    Wuhan coronavirus is no more deadly or aggressive than pandemic flu was in the early 20th Century. The reason we don't fear the flu the same way is because we know how to make vaccines for it now. If coronavirus scares you, not getting the flu shot should scare you more.

    God yes please

    I know I'm old 'cos when I use an IDE I type and something pops up to give me wrong info about my half written word (with window hiding my code), mismatched parens flash, symbols change colour because my half typed code has an incorrect parsing and I think "make it all go away!".

    We expect ridership to blow away estimates at stations like Ballard and U-District, just as they have at Capitol Hill. We’re concerned about the anti-urban trend in these projections that have real world implications. Capitol Hill station was under built based on them.
