Doing non-bird stuff this weekend: going to give keynote at annual meeting of The Ohio Lepidopterists. Hey, butterflies and moths have wings too, and ultimately, everything in nature is connected.

We’re in a full-blown bird emergency and Congress must take the next step and pass the Migratory Bird Protection Act. This legislation represents the minimum of what we should be doing to .

Why do some people call the regal Bald Eagle a "trash bird"? explains—while also rejecting the label—in this month's edition of Ask Kenn!

Kudos to photographer Annalise Kaylor for calling this out. Conference organizers need to do better on this front.

One side effect of lying for four years about things like dishwashers, the weather, the Boy Scouts and whether you were named man of the year in the state of Michigan is that it can be hard for people to take your word when you say you have sensational secret information.

Garnaut Report in 2008 - “Fire seasons will start earlier, end later and be more intense. This effect increases over time but should be directly observable by 2020.”

A strange and sad reflection of the ongoing horrific fires in Australia.

Meanwhile, some people in positions of power are STILL denying the reality of climate change. It is imperative that we either change their minds or remove them from office.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer: We bring back bird puns every year. (A murre, pronounced like myrrh, is a type of seabird.)

Falcons, hawks, owls, vultures—what exactly makes a raptor a raptor? It's a tougher question than you might think, explains in this month's Ask Kenn!

This month's Ask Kenn! is up. Come for the in-depth discussion of raptor identity (falcons are more closely related to parrots than they are to hawks?) and stay for 's excruciatingly bad (brilliant?) bird pun.

The Walker Fellowships at National Audubon represent a great opportunity for students who aspire to work in communications about conservation. Some brilliant young people have come through this program over the last 4 years, heading for promising careers.

With its dark, blank stare and tufted ears, few raptors look as fierce, or as eerie as this Malay eagle owl at Jurong Bird Park ().This large, and visually striking bird was first described and located on the island of Sumatra, which is reflected in its Latin name.

Main entrance to Museum in Salem, Mass - amazing place that expands the concept of what an art / culture museum can be. I’m honored to be giving a public program about there tonight.

This bird photo was on a big monitor in the Detroit, Michigan airport, with no explanation. Good pic, but - why? The bird is a European species of nuthatch, with no conceivable connection to Detroit. Still nice to see it here.

Looks like registration is open for the Colombia BirdFair next February! Colombia is home to almost 2000 species of birds - more than any other country - and has a thriving community of birders and ornithologists. I'm looking forward to speaking at this event!
