Ask the candidates for president your bicycling questions! The League will be at the forum representing people who bike and our mission to build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

We are over 1,000 people now. 1,038 people have sent emails to all 14 senators on the transportation committee urging them to vote NO on ’s disastrous amendment. Meeting starts at 10:45am. Send your message now:

If you wonder why bicycling (and walking) are so difficult in the US, this is one reason why: "bicycling received little more than an occasional aside during the Highway Research Board’s first 50 years"

A national survey found that "strong and fearless" and "enthused and confident" bicyclists made up ~12% of people who bike, but many cities were >25%

There are 11 large US cities with bike/walk/transit commute modeshares of ~25% or more:

"Social scientists have long observed that a sufficiently large and committed minority within a group can trigger tipping points in the larger group’s social norms...recent experimental evidence puts it at around 25 percent."

Scooters might not cross the jurisdictional lines of the 10+ counties in the Atlanta metro the same way bikes might, but local traffic regulations cause confusion and make it harder to create societal norms of behavior

I'm not a fan of leaving regulation of scooters to local governments: Many states left laws about riding bikes on sidewalks up to local governments and that's part of why people biking are both told to "get off the sidewalk" and "get off the road"

Hope those residents don't want bike or pedestrian projects either because North Carolina law says "shall not provide financial support for independent bicycle and pedestrian improvement projects, except for federal funds"

Bikes and Transit are better together. Glad to see that propose that "At least 30% of the money [from new bike/ped] program would have to go to projects that connect people with transit":

Hey what's the opposite of prioritizing maintenance? "This comment period is not to request repair work, but rather solely to come up with ideas for what projects residents would like to see built."

A study in Indianapolis found "3,748 miles worth of gaps where pedestrian facilities don't exist" closing those gaps w/ sidewalks would cost $3-5 billion There's no way a local, or state, government has the capacity to close the gaps that federal funding for highways opened up

Can anyone tell me about biking in Tennant, California? I was looking at data and apparently all 10 workers in the town commute by bike. There is a place is the US where 100% of workers commute by bike

"What I don't get is why design a safety system completely blind to the largest risk factor associated with pedestrian deaths - darkness." Seems like either ease or bias. We also should have more pedestrian models for AEB tests, so that we know AEB works for all sizes/races

Lots of companies working to improve pedestrian (and hopefully bicycle) AEB in that story The right thing to do is to make this technology standard and to publicly test it ASAP
