And at this point it's actually lying. Even if lying by ignorance b/c it's been decades since you've been on the job market yourself. If you're telling EC scholars that research productivity is the key to landing academic jobs you are lying.

Given the ratio of PhD produced by a professor over a career compared to number of professorships how is it mathematically sustainable for everyone to be able to get a job when it’s not uncommon for professors to advise 15+ (at least in my field) PhD students in a career.

It's about political will. There is enough work to go around for lots more PhDs than currently those w/secure employment, as evidenced by how heavily dependent schools are on adjuncts and contract faculty.
