10 years of conversations. 10 years of normalizing mental health struggles. 10 years of progress. The work isn’t done yet. We need better access to mental health services. We need more affordable treatment options. Keep talking. Keep asking. Keep fighting.

If you’re a business leader, a boss, a CEO, invest in your people. Include mental health coverage in your benefits plan.

Just spoke with a psychiatrist on , and he said today’s conversation is a hopeful one. There is healing, there is treatment. You CAN feel better. It starts with talking.

Next step, family doctor. They can help with referrals, and tracking your health. What if you don’t have a family doctor? In an emergency, go to the ER. Walk in clinics are a resource, (though imperfect, I know).

So what next? There are things you can do on your own. Physical activity, getting enough sleep, eating well. Cutting alcohol & cannabis. (Anecdotally, I also find cutting caffeine helps, and meditation, too. But that’s just me)

We all have bad days. But if it’s lasting weeks, or months, that’s a warning sign. If you are unable to function as you used to, another warning sign. (Examples would be no longer wanting to see friends, not being able to do your job etc)

Plus, there is help available online. For remote or rural communities, this is an option. Things like internet delivered CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). There are also apps for depression, BUT, be careful about privacy policies.

Be kind. Listen. Think about the words you use and how they affect people. And thank you to the thousands of people and organizations supported by the funds from . The work they do every hour and every day really does help make the world a better place.
