This is by no means an original concept, but I have employed sprints & data clinics with my colleagues and with ad hoc requests from outside the company. They are so rewarding (for all parties!), I don't think I ever want to work any other way.

As an analyst, also a rewarding one. I like to "sprint": what data do I have, what does 1st exploration yield? It's clear what to analyze next (referrals, size, vertical, biz models) OR to optimize further upstream. Reduce scope➡️deliver results➡️build trust➡️spec future project

This was such an interesting data request from Max & a few others. Lots more to dig into.

Last week I got an email from Sruthi about Reply All’s Test Kitchen series. I had been avoiding listening but once I did I felt gaslit. The truth is RA and specifically PJ and Sruthi contributed to a near identical toxic dynamic at Gimlet. This will be a longer thread, apologies.

"I think that if the hallmark of crusading journalism is sustained outrage, then the hallmark of engaged journalism is sustained listening." Excellent piece by recent social journalism grad

We condemn all forms of systemic racism ingrained in our society and the institutions that murder, harm, or oppress Black people. While words are important, it’s actions that define us. Read about actions we're taking to support the Black community:

As a lifelong student of the humanities, but not of journalism specifically, I'd never heard of Hallin's "spheres" of ideas. Helpful fodder for every role-of-the-media conversation I've had with friends & family outside the industry.

Mugshot galleries were never informative; they were only tools to drive traffic. I won't dismiss this, it is progress. Still, I hope the industry can fully come to terms with its addiction to flashy stats and realtime-everything. These are digital media's "banality of evil."
