Important 👇 I know I can get bogged down in should’s. “I should know this/understand this/not need help.” Letting go of unreasonable self-standards is so helpful in providing space for me to exercise self-compassion and learn!

Validation is the fastest way to help someone. Validation doesn’t mean you approve of what happened. It’s about helping the person to understand that their experience makes sense given the situation they‘re in. When you validate you honor their humanity and their history.

Another extreme weight control bx we've started to hear recently is excessive use of waist shapers (all day, when exercising, or when in pain)

folks: have you noticed any trends recently with types of restriction/compensatory bx? We have noticed a huge uptick in use of: (especially in men!), apple cider vinegar (for lax effect), and "detox" teas. Curious if others noticed the same!

Not sure where to begin? A Q? I ask ALL my clients: “Is there anything else you think would be important for me to know, that I HAVEN’T asked about?” . [Because your standard intake form ain’t ask, implicit msg = “that don’t matter”] You’d be surprised by the responses you get.

This means that there are biological factors (e.g., genetics), psychological factors (e.g., perfectionism), and social factors (e.g., pressure from the media) that contribute to an eating disorder and it is rarely (if ever) one factor that leads to an eating disorder.

I have noticed however, that across these articles "pressure from the media" is framed as causing her eating disorder. Because I anticipate that this will lead to a lot of misinformation, I wanted to pop on here and remind folks that eating disorders are biopsychosocial.
