St. Patrick’s Day note, @realDonaldTrump has used term “paddy wagon” considered a slur about Irish dating back to 1850s New York. Irish “Paddy’s”were rounded up for drunkenness in police vans. Others say it later referred to NY police, many Irish. (Speech July 28)pic.twitter.com/MbXZMwlrFC

Quite the opposite actually. It probably had more to do with the high rate of Irishmen in the police.pic.twitter.com/PK2Z4yCMOL

The fact that you just assume it has to do with Irish people being drunk all the time says a lot about your own preconditions of Irishmen.

Here in Australia it's always been referred to as a paddy wagon (primarily for transporting prisoners to station or watch house especially if violent or being sick ) I just turned 52 and that's the name I've always heard them referred to as.pic.twitter.com/vwchJNbRlY

We‘ll just have to just agree to disagree. I’ll also apologize for suggesting you have a prejudice regarding Irishmen. That’s was an unfair assumption.

Webster’s says it originates in the 1930‘s and refers to police cars. Even if there is a bother definition it‘s a bit unfair to assume that the president, who I’m not a fan of by the way, meant one or the other.
