That's fine, but (though I'm not in any sense a Trump supporter) this exact usage of the term doesn't by itself connote any racism. It's extremely common language with most people not knowing the background of the word.

Slur means insult. This has nothing to do with race.

A slur against a race has to do with race. Again, I'm not a Trump supporter (far from it), but the implication in the original tweet is that Trump doesn't like Irish people, and that just doesn't seem plausible. Anyway, I'm a fan of yours––no worries.

People use it without understanding its roots...that was the whole point. I am not suggesting there was intention...you are reading far too much into it.

So what? It's a colloquialism and the typical American understands it without offense of any sort. Usually, when people recognize there's no intention to a remark, they say nothing about it. In fact pretty much always. Good talk.

“you are reading far too much into it.” ... Says the lady who works for NBC and thought this was newsworthy. This is why people call NBC Fake News

LOL, if you weren't implying intention, why did you bring it up? Have you done any searches to see if some Democrat politician has used this inflammatory term? You look stupid, and now you're trying to backtrack.
