Yes why do you have to put it in context with Trump? Millions of people use this term- now we have the anti-Trumpers and the pro-Trumpers going to fight it out on twitter. Nothing good comes from tweets like this

You throw the bomb out there and now you want everyone to “lighten up.” This example happens everyday with members of the media

Every year we Irish Americans try and explain the origins if the term, in an attempt to educate it out of use, but it always ends up that we're told to lighten up. Why? We're just explaining you may not want to use a pejorative.
-
Yes! It comes up at every Irish meeting I've ever been to.

I don't remember that topic coming up...or any other topic for that matter. Maybe we shouldn't hold the McMeetings at the pub anymore.

If it was just about the history of the word, you would have left the Trump part out of it.
-
Exactly. I think you need to lighten up Kelly O'Language Nazi. This is a prime example of what Rush Limbaugh refers to as "the drive-by media". You just made your nasty little hit, and now you're backing away and pretending it didn't happen.

You said it was a slur. No wonder we think you and the rest of the mainstream media is absolutely ridiculous.

Then why tweet it! You knew what you were doing.

That's why you had to throw Trump's name into your history lesson. This is why people can't stand the media anymore!

Then why even mention it ? Only to find yet another thing to slam Trump on that has no merits. Obvious agenda ma’am.

When the President of the US, who represents our country to the world, uses racist language, it's news. Unfortunately, in Trump's case, it's old and unsurprising news.

You knew exactly what you were doing, or you wouldn’t have brought up Trump. Nice try, typical NBC.

Ummmm, you did when you used “slur”

A lot of people use offensive terms not knowing they are offensive. It’s still offensive whether they intend offense or not. Trump uses offensive terms knowingly.

U said it is "considered a slur about Irish dating back to 1850s New York." IOW, a "slur" which is u think is still a slur. U didn't say it's gone out of use as a slur. Seems like U saved this slurry item for 8 mos. This is the trashy product of an unhinged, Trump-obsessed mind.

Everyone is aware, it's just that no one cares about it, normal people don't get offended by history or a word, we go about our day without looking for something to bitch and whine about!pic.twitter.com/QGTVzEsNQa

Nice to see good folks defending Irish sensitivities on this fine St. Patrick’s Day! Shows how little they know about the Irish.
