The @MendoSheriff has requested this inquest, he is also the coroner. He says his hope is to get a clearer understanding of the Hart family cause of death and what happened during the drive from Clark County, WA to Mendocino County, CA last year. #LiveOnK2

Hearing officer is going through protocols and how this inquest will work. 14 jurors have been selected for this inquest. A list of witnesses, mostly law enforcement, will be called over the next two days. The hope is to bring together all of the pieces of this case. #LiveOnK2

Witnesses from Washington and California are both in attendance. The hearing officer says they plan to talk about everything that happened before leaving, during the drive and after the Hart Family's van went off the cliff. #LiveOnK2

First witness now being called in Hart Family coroner's inquest, Officer Michael Covington with the California Highway Patrol, he has been an officer for four years. #LiveOnK2

Officer now recounting first being called to the area where the Hart Family's vehicle went over the cliff. "We were told by fire personnel they had been down to where the vehicle was, it was knee deep water" by the time he went down there he says the water was too deep to pass.

Officer testifying that they had to repel down the side of the cliff. They ultimately used a helicopter to get three of the family members out of the car. Due to positioning, getting the two others in the car was difficult. #LiveOnK2

As the van was being towed from the bottom of the cliff up, the driver and passenger were still in the car however, the driver (Jennifer) fell out but the passenger (Sarah) was still in the vehicle. #LiveOnK2

Officer testified that nothing seemed out of the ordinary at the crash site, meaning there were no skid marks where the vehicle went off the cliff. #LiveOnK2

Officer Annabell Sanchez now recounting what she remembers from arriving on the scene. At this point we aren't learning much that is new, going over the basics. They are now taking a break, their plan is to take a break every hour, they will be back at 10:05. #LiveOnK2

Back on the record for at least another hour. Calling Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Julian, he also responded to the Hart Family crash site. He works with the coroner department, says it was clear everyone in the car was dead. #LiveOnK2

Deputy made contact with individuals who found human remains along the beach about two weeks after the crash. Those remains were identified as Ciera Hart. #LiveOnK2

Jared Chaney as Search and Rescue Coordinator for the @MendoSheriff is now on the stand to discuss what happened in the large search.Chaney says the hope was that they would find someone alive. They say the shoreline was inaccessible making the search difficult. #LiveOnK2

Chaney: We found a lot of floating debris coming up on shore. We called the coast guard who can determine how far some of that debris may have floated. #LiveOnK2

Chaney says a number of people who were friends of the Hart Family who came to help search. #LiveOnK2

Search 6 was just after remains of Ciera Hart were found. They focused more on that area. A month later, Hannah's remains were found in an area that search crews had looked in 5 different times. #LiveOnK2

Hannah Harts foot was found by a person's K-9 who wouldn't leave the pair of pants and shoes alone. It wasn't until later that they realized there were human remains in the shoe. #LiveOnK2

Area K-9 can find any and all humans, as well as a cadaver K-9's can find human remains, both were used during @MendoSheriff Search and Rescue for Hart Family searches. #LiveOnK2

Chaney: A sea lion was reported to have been playing with human remains. After searching, the best they could say is they believe it was a fish. #LiveOnK2

Back on the record. Dr. Greg Pizarro has been called to the stand. He is forensic pathologist, who performs autopsies. #LiveOnK2

Doctor will testify to cause of death for each individual that he performed an autopsy. It will be up to the jury to determine manner of death (natural causes, accident, suicide, at hands of another). #LiveOnK2

Dr. Pizarro now discussing autopsy of Jennifer Hart. Cannot determine time of death. Her cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, especially neck and right chest due to motor vehicle rollover. She had a significant amount of ethanol in her blood. #LiveOnK2

Dr. Pizarro: Ethanol is a scientific term for alcohol, her BAC was .102. #LiveOnK2

Now moving on to Sarah Hart's autopsy. She was pinned between the seats and the roof. Dr. Pizarro believes she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. #LiveOnK2

Dr. Pizarro now testifying the Sarah had Benedryl in her system. He says "her level of benedryl is pretty high." It was NOT the cause of death but says the amount she had in her system could have been toxic. #LiveOnK2

Coroner's inquest into the Hart Family crash has started again. Dr. Pizarro back on the stand, he says 19yo Marcus Hart death was caused by trauma to the neck. He also says Marcus had a significant amount of benedryl in his system. #LiveOnK2

Dr. Pizarro: 14-year-old Abigail Hart weighed just 82lbs at the time of the autopsy. She had lacerations to her face, and did not appear to be wearing a seat belt. She too died from trauma to the neck. #LiveOnK2
