Kelly Moran’s Tweets

Well. I’m here, and I’m also still “there.” That’s about all I have it in me to say at the moment. Hugs to those who can’t say the same. Let me know how I can help.

I had the opportunity to take a loooong holiday break this year. I made no travel plans and didn’t do anything “big” but it’s been really great just taking care of things that had been needing my attention. I wish this opportunity for everyone. ❤️

People who show up to book club saying “I didn’t read the book but I’m here to soak up all your good insights” - they’re bad team mates too, aren’t they?

Facebook has become the place I check every so often to see who got married, who died, and who had a baby. What will Twitter become now that its star is fading?

Tip for when you're working with people from professional or academic backgrounds different than your own: If you feel like saying "Why don't you just..." stop and just don't ask. I guarantee there's a reason they don't "just." That reason is likely beyond your expertise.

If you're not using an informed consent process in your research because you're worried someone will use it as an opportunity to opt out - you're fundamentally not understanding consent. #ux #uxr #research

I'm very confused when I see people still wearing a mask BUT with their nose uncovered. I'd really like to ask them about what they think it's doing for them but it would definitely be considered aggressive of me.

Between 8pm last night and 8am this morning four meetings for today moved around and now they all conflict with one another 🤦‍♀️

Fantastic teams are when you think to yourself, "Ug, I need to do that thing I always find so tedious" and then you see a teammate has already done it and it's perfect.

Tips on maintaining attention at virtual conferences? No matter how much will I have, or even how interesting the topic, I just mentally wander away and start taking care of little tasks.

Note that I haven't said one is better or worse than the other. That decision is based on your company's business philosophy and what your target users value. The distinction is critical though.

What happens when geographical flexibility means your project partner no longer lives in a timezone that shares overlapping work hours, and you both value work/life balance? (Not a hypothetical question.)
I love finding the random bits of life that other people use as bookmarks when I read a book from the library or a used bookstore 🥰

That thing where you're testing a live demo with users and they unexpectedly have their device set to dark mode and none of the text shows up 💀💀💀 (Extra funny cuz I use dark mode on my personal device, just not on my corp so I forget to check.)

What's funny is if I said this was my therapy hour no one would dare schedule over it but because my physical body also needs nourishment, that's a problem.

People annoyed that when you schedule a meeting you have to "avoid Kelly's lunch break" - you're welcome.

Everyone slamming on the gifted kids like they wish they could have made their own toothpaste during school hours. Because from what I could see that's all the gifted kids got in their special classes in my school. And then the crushing weight of reality at adulthood.
A group was starting a subgroup for topicX. I noted I knew a product that had users experiencing topicX and I’d be happy to make a connection. No, they said. We just want to talk about the power structures of topicX. I don’t get how one ends up in industry with this mindset. 🤔

My answer: Watch how people do stuff. The reason UX and academia don't always mesh right away (said with love and respect!) :

Challenge: Respond with an explanation of your research/research interests in a tweet using language that is accessible to folks outside the field AND is 280 characters or less. Ready...set...GO!

Wow. They make transferring your medical records really tough. Especially when you made the request 3 years ago and they just never did it, but you thought they did, and now they're all irritated you forgot your 3-year-old log in info and they won't verify you any other way. 😠

I think it’s weird that other world leaders follow the rule that one may not reach out to the British monarch but must wait for them to extend their hand. It’s not our Queen/King.
Okay so you’re telling me that burglars respond to surveys? Can we talk about the recruit? Or do they just hand the questionnaire over in prison during intake?
