For an organization that would ostensibly know about firearms, that statement is beyond asinine. There’s more to a weapon’s lethality than “power,” otherwise our troops would be invading sovereign countries with hunting rifles instead of M16s.

They effectively did up until the start of Vietnam. Big rifle rounds in battle rifles were commonplace.

Even Justice Scalia's DC v Heller opinion that glossed over the historical and linguistic connections between the right protected by the 2nd and state militias as discussed in the amicus briefs, acknowledged that the 2nd doesn't cover "dangerous and unusual" or concealed weapons.
