Our team was honored to have the opportunity to present at ASA's On Aging confernce! We traveled to Atlanta to share about Iyashi Care, how Keiro and Providence continue to work together to build and sustain the program, and the importance of culturally sensitive palliative care.

Keiro defines quality of life in five elements: health/wellness, purpose, connectedness, security, and autonomy. We interviewed community members to ask them, “Which of the quality of life elements are important to you and why?” Watch the video here:

UPDATE: Keiro wants to hear your feedback on what quality of life means to you! Join one of our feedback sessions in March to help us continue to improve upon our Quality of Life Classes. We will resume classes in April with presentations on Security.
“I” statements can be a very powerful tool for caregivers. “I” statements focus on the speaker’s feelings and beliefs; for example: “I feel concerned for you and mom when you refuse extra help." Check out more ways to utilize this communication method:
Since 2006, the Nikkei Senior Network program has brought together different community leaders who work with their older adult groups. Sue Kawasaki, president of Continuing Education for the Nikkei Widowed, shared her experience with this program:
On February 17th, Keiro joined our friends at First Presbyterian Church Altadena, Pasadena Nikkei Seniors, and Pasadena Buddhist Temple to present about emergency preparedness in the face of natural disasters and other emergencies. Check out the photos!
